Proposition: Django Was a Genius

Django Was a Genius

What's all the fuss about Django Reinhardt? What's so special about this guy?
Mozart was a boy genius. He learnt to play when he was very young. He had a natural ability that allowed him to understand how music worked instinctively. He didn't need to struggle the way most of us have to, to make the sounds we hear in our heads or want to play.
Imagine what it would be like if you could imagine the music you wanted to hear or play  and then: immediately be able to turn that into notes and sounds. That's what Mozart could do and that's what Django could do.
Django really was a gypsy. Not only could he not read music, he was completely illiterate. Already an amazing guitarist, at the age of 18 he suffered a horrific injury, after a fire in his caravan, which left him with only two useful fingers. Despite his dreadful injury he recovered and developed a completely new style of playing. In fact the true disciples of Django (even today) copy his technique of playing with amazing speed and complexity with only two fingers.
